Our Neighbors Child is a non-profit, community-based organization that began in 1992 by providing holiday gifts for children in low-income families in western Fairfax County. In the first year, the then unnamed endeavor consisted of a few neighbors who rounded up enough new toys to supply a few families' children with gifts for the holidays. In the second year, fifty children received assistance and local businesses and church youth groups got involved. Over the years, additional volunteers, schools, businesses, local churches and organizations have pitched in and ONC has grown to serve the holiday needs of many families in western Fairfax County.
ONC is not an organization that represents one specific religious group. Friends and neighbors from varied backgrounds have come together as a community to serve all families in need. These tireless volunteers are the key to what makes Our Neighbor's Child a success. What began as an endeavor of a few friends helping several dozen children, has grown to a network of more than 400 community volunteers that serve nearly 2,000 children in the Centreville, Chantilly, Clifton and Fairfax areas each year. Our mission is to unite the community in this effort, connecting schools, churches, local businesses and individuals to ensure that every child has a holiday season filled with joy.
